CITY MUSEUM STUTTGART
Exhibit Design, Jangled Nerves 2016
On a prominent square in the city center of Stuttgart a city museum is redesigned in an old library building from the 19th century.
The museum discusses the city ́s history from its beginnings to nowadays.
The second floor of the building with its vertical permeability throughout the middle axis contains the ‘Stadtmodell’, a model of the city. It serves as the central orientation point and shows the topography of the city by giving further information through digital representation.
As seen on the floor plan twelve vitrines on the right and left of the center discuss twelve topics about Stuttgart by presenting them in layered information in various spatial deepenings in the furtitures body. The 19th and 20th century rooms contain two giant pieces of exhibition furniture. The atmosphere of those rooms is produced by the high number of exhibits. These are arranged in both thematical and spatial ways.
