EXHIBITION CHELSEA COLLEGE OF ARTS

Final Show, University of the Arts 2018

In the final show I wanted to show a distillation of the contents of my research during my master year. I built an installation that, while it made no obvious reference to the sites, was strongly dependent on my investigation and interpretation in those sites. Visitors of the exhibition were able to walk through a spatial structure which tested scenarios of new ways of looking in the gallery space. At the same time the installation displayed my produced work shown as images, photographs and models. Through the construction of the structure it depicted spatial conditions of inside/outside, visibility and invisibility. The structure consisted of various panels of different materials mounted on wooden poles. By walking through the structure the visitors encountered different scenarios of perception and looking in contemporary urban landscape and could see their own reflection in different stages of visibilities. Within the structure different levels of transparency were displayed. The levels of transparency reached from empty frames, over two- sided mirror, mirrors to opaque panels
of wood. Seeing themselves while looking atmy work made the gaze ́s play apparent andthe visitors became aware of their own perfor- mance. The structure with its numerous screens of different sizes also hints at the overload of screens we are confronted with today, reaching from digital screens to glass screens in the ar- chitectural landscape. The structure illustrates the shifting boundaries of private and public by bringing the outside into the inside, by mir- roring the image of the courtyard of Chelsea College of Art and Design into the exhibition space.
